Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt
  • Virtual partner: Pramod
Status Run 74 in progress. Warmed up after 3rd appearance of IVC leak at 4K. Cryostat Vacuum Jacket pumped out.
Tower was removed yesterday. The plan is to completely disassemble the IVC, redoing all the seals - the indium seals and the stripline elbow, which has been leaking for the last year.
The current striplines were installed 2018 Jan 19. That seems to be the last time the IVC was fully disassembled. That run diary page refers back to 2017 Aug 30, which has a list of steps for disassembly.
1310 Matt enters lab
1330 Remove bottom stripline heatsink. Requires 5.5mm crescent wrench and 2.5 mm Allen key. Put pieces in labeled bag.

1340 Detach stripline buckle from top of the lip at the bottom of the IVC middle can, leave hanging at end of striplines (it will stay there until I remove the stripline connector covers)
1350 Start loosening bolts to remove middle section of IVC
1400 Remove all but 2 bolts at top of middle IVC section. Use push-holes to detach section.
1405 Set up scissor jack to lower the middle IVC section
1405 Lower IVC with scissor jack as far as it will go
1410 Pull striplines and thermometer wire out of middle IVC section
1415 Work the middle IVC section free from the 100 mK can and 600 mK rod. Had to tilt it to get it out.
1435 Remove 30mK can, which is attached with 6 brass screws
1435 Next we need to remove the MC spool. It needs to be removed before the 100mK can because the 600mK rod can't be pushed far enough out of the way if the spool is there.
1450 Remove the center 10mm nut and 5 of the 7 screws to remove spool. Then use copper tape to hold spool up while the last two screws are removed. (This wasn't quite enough tape, spool is pretty heavy.)
1455 Finish removing MC spool
1505 Remove 100 mK can (6 stainless steel bolts with washers)

1515 Mark positions of upper stripline heatsink and guide piece with sharpie
1520 Detach upper stripline heatsink from IVC ceiling, put guide and bolts and washers in a bag. The heat sink drops out of the stripline tube - the striplines are held up at the hole in the IVC by the first baffle plate.
1530 Matt exits lab
