Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt / Derek
  • Virtual partner: Zach / Matt
Status Run 74 in progress. Warming up after 3rd appearance of IVC leak at 4K. Cryostat Vacuum Jacket pumping overnight.
1055 Turbo on CVJ = 12 nbar. With Turbo valved out for 1 minute, CVJ = 160 nbar
1100 MC(Cernox) = 279 K
1100 IVC = 0.76 bar. (Lower than yesterday??)
1100 Start gently pumping IVC with Scroll Pump (because we want to try leak checking IVC again)
1110 Remove covers from MB pit
1110 Scroll on IVC < 0.1 mbar, switch to pumping IVC with Turbo
1125 Lower MB and replace covers on pit. Remove fill funnel from IVC.
1130 Leak Detector on IVC = 40 pbarL/s. Squirt helium around the seal at the bottom of the stripline tube: leak signal increases to 65 pbarL/s. But a bit of delay - could this leak be higher up?
Squirting higher up on the stripline tube, leak signal increases even more, to 85 pbarL/s.
Squirting around the stipline elbow, leak > 200 pbarL/s
1135 Start slowly filling IVC with N2 gas
1155 Remove all but 2 bolts from bottom IVC
1205 Erect clean tent beneath fridge, start the HEPA filter fan. Wipe inside of tent with methanol.
1215 Remove IVC bottom
1220 Remove tape holding up unused stripline. Disconnect 4K heat sinks from tower
1225 Remove accessory plugs from NW face and SQUET from W face, remove SQUET from SL 43
1230 Remove SQUET ZC-13 from E face and from SL 41
1230 Remove tower socket covers from unused tower faces
1240 Remove 4K shield
1245 Disconnect 600mK rod from tower. Remove all three 100mK heat sinks
1255 Remove 100mK shield inner and outer pieces
1300 Remove tape holding Tower thermometer to 30mK can, unplug tower thermometer
1300 Matt exits lab
1544 Derek enters lab.
1600 Remove cap from bottom of tower
1600 Remove some of the bolts attaching the tower adapter ring to the 30mK can
1615 Attach tower stand ring to bottom of IVC
1625 Raise tower stand to support tower and tighten the nuts on the threaded rods to hold the stand up
1625 Remove remaining bolts from tower adapter ring, detaching tower from 30mK can
1630 Put read drill case under IVC and put scissor jack on top of case
1635 Raise scissor jack to support tower stand. Then loosen the nuts on the threaded rods a lot.
1635 Lower the tower with the scissor jack, being careful to guide the 600 mK rod, make sure the tower elements clear the can, and keep the striplines and thermometer wire from snagging on things
1640 When tower is low enough that threaded rod nuts are near the top of the threaded rods, tighten the nuts to support the tower with the stand, then remove the drill case from under the scissor jack. Then position the scissor jack under the tower stand and raise it again to support the tower.
1645 Remove threaded rods from fridge stand, then continue lowering the tower with the scissor jack
1645 Detach tower stand ring from IVC and lower it down on the fridge stand shafts
1650 Pull tower stand and jack free of IVC, pulling the shafts slightly apart to clear the IVC
1655 Double-bag tower and place it in clean room anteroom
1710 Remove clean tent and store in pump alley
1710 Derek exits lab
