Previous Day

  • Lab in-personnel: Himangshu
Status Run 76 finished
Setup DCRC33(2)→HV control, NaI trigger signal → DCRCX(4)
IVC closed and Turbo pumping for a while. No tower - this was just for a leak test.
1145 Moved source mover to the table to understand resistance and current relationship in the source mover controller when we try to move the Y motor arm with software
1240 Connected the Fluke multimeter as an ammeter to measure current for pin 1(out of 4 pins) of Y-labelled motor coil wire. We are assuming the first pin on the dotted side of the strip as Pin 1. The X-arm of the 2D source mover is fixed with Kapton tape. So we assume this configuration as X=-30 Y=-180 in degrees ⇒ X=-16 Y=96 for the motor coordinates. Run the software to set the current position of arms (Set Absolute Position.prg file) and edit the X,Y to -16, 96. No current in the motor coil pin 1 is observed
1310 We will now try to move the Y arm by 60 degrees. Open X and Y move Abs.prg file, set X=-16, Y=64. We observed the current increases as the Y arm starts moving, reaches a peak current of 48 mA and slowly comes back to 0 mA. Same when we move the arm back to its initial position.
1323 Repeat the measurement using Pin 2, 3 and 4. In all cases, the current in the circuit increases in each pin to about 49 mA and slowly comes back to 0 mA after the motor stops.
1420 During pin 4 move, there was a small spark on Pin 1 and the motor moved in macro steps to the final position. I checked the motor coils and it seems that pin1 and pin2 is open now. The motor can move in one direction (can't move backward) in macro steps.
1508 Tried changing resistance in the circuit. Since we want to measure this resistance at the diverter board when we run this 2d mover, we use resistance of coil at the controller end to define the resistance in the circuit. When we measure this resistance when no resistors are plugged in, we get coil resistance at controller side with current setup to be 85.7 ohm. Step 1 move, peak current 40 mA. Step 2 Peak current 44 mA, arm hits the parking spot sidewall.
1600 Now, I plugged in two resistors Pin 3 R=186.5 ohm and Pin 4 R=196 ohm. The overall coil resistance at controller is shown as 440.6 ohm. I tried moving the source mover two steps from initial position X=-16,Y=96 to Step Number 1: X=-16, Y=64. The current flowing in Pin 3 peaks at 15 mA, and the position of the source is slightly off than before. Step Number 2: X=-16, Y=22, current peak at 19 mA. During Trial 1, the source reached the parking location. During 2nd Trial, the final source location is a couple of degrees off from parking spot and hence is not blocked by the parking lead blocker.
1630 Now, I plugged in two resistors Pin 3 R=2 k ohm and Pin 4 R= 2 kohm. The overall coil resistance at controller is shown as 1.408 kohm. I tried moving the source mover two steps from initial position X=-16,Y=96 to Step Number 1: X=-16, Y=64. No current is flowing, no movement. I tried repeating from start, no movement again.
