Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt & Scott
  • Virtual partner: none
Status Run 74 in progress. Warmed up after 3rd appearance of IVC leak at 4K. Cryostat Vacuum Jacket pumped out. Beginning reassembly of IVC.
Upper IVC section installed yesterday
1250 Matt enters lab
1325 Feed striplines through stripline buckle, then replace stripline connector protector plates. See May 12 for relevant photos.
1400 Start reconnecting vacuum hardware at top of fridge. Need to do this now because the t-section that connects to the stripline elbow is disconnected and the ebox is pulled back a few inches so there's not as much slack in the striplines to connect the stripline heatsink in the right place. Paying attention to how the connection to the stripline elbow stresses it. It seems easy to put the ebox in a position so that there is zero stress on the stripline elbow. However the clamp on the side port of the t-section has to squeeze underneath and pushes up the t-section in such a way as to apply stress. I'm thinking about grinding down the bottom of the clamp so there's more room.
1450 Eventually decided it wasn't necessary to grind those clamps. Reconnected the clamps for the t-section and also the 90-degree curve piece so that everything lies flat and level, also cinched back the ebox to reduce the tension. Tightened all the clamps and the compression ring on the elbow and the top port.
Note - it was a little concerning how freely you can move the elbow up and down, tilt it this way and that even with the compression ring tightened. Oh well - it would be a major re-do to change that. (Maybe a custom slightly-thicker o-ring?)
1530 Attach upper stripline heatsink to striplines, using sharpie marks as a guide (it's a little below the lowest stripline baffle). See May 12 for relevant photos.
1550 Attach upper stripline heatsink and stripline guide to ceiling of IVC, using sharpie marks as guides.
