| Status | Run 74 in progress. Warmed up after 3rd appearance of IVC leak at 4K. Cryostat Vacuum Jacket pumped out. Beginning reassembly of IVC. |
| | Yesterday the stripline tube was installed. |
| 1200 | Matt enters lab |
| 1210 | Clean all three indium surfaces on upper IVC section one more time |
| 1235 | Put all pieces of the nine fridge poly layers back in place and secure with Kapton tape.
|
| | I can see a longitudinal scratch on the outside of the stripline tube, facing out and a little to the right. This is concerning, and I'm wondering whether I should remove it again, polish it again, and identify where the scratch occurs. This must be at one of the fridge baffles.
|
| 1250 | Pull out stripline tube again. Actually there don't seem to be new scratches at the business end, at least not big ones. You can hear scraping as the tube is moved down, but it seems like it could be from the stripline baffles inside rather than the fridge baffles. |
| 1255 | Polish business end of stripline tube again, with two different kinds of Scotch Brite then finish with 1500-grade sandpaper. Looks shiny.
|
| 1300 | Put two stripes on end of stripline tube with red Sharpie, one at the edge of the polished section (there's a noticeable cut in places from when Bill V turned it in the lathe a few years ago) and another one 1 cm higher. We can look for new scratches at the end. |
| 1320 | Put another layer of Kapton tape over the edges of all the fridge baffle holes, just one piece centered a little right of directly outward, since this seems to be where the longitudinal scratch occurred (plus zigzag scratches from past installations). |
| 1330 | Tape foil clumps between plates in bottom four stripline baffles
|
| 1345 | Raise stripline tube up through baffles again. Some new zigzag scratches are evident. We'll take it out again and consider more seriously sanding those baffle edges. |
| 1255 | Remove stripline tube again, polish out the scratches again |
| 1530 | With some small files I borrowed from Mike Rother, file the inner surface of the bottom fridge baffle, then sand it with 180 then 1500 -grit sandpaper, then cover edge with Teflon tape (don't know if that will be any better than Kapton) |
| 1600 | Do the same with the second fridge baffle. |
| 1630 | Do the same with the third fridge baffle. Two more to go. |
| 1645 | Matt exits lab |
