Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt
  • Virtual partner: Zach
Status Run 74 in progress. Warmed up after 3rd appearance of IVC leak at 4K. Cryostat Vacuum Jacket pumped out. All IVC sections and stripline tube have been removed.
1130 Matt enters lab
1140 Continue putting strips of Kapton tape around inner edges of holes through fridge baffles for the stripline tube
1315 Finish putting Kapton strips around baffle holes
1330 Find a tiny allen key that seems to be the right size (3/128“??) for the tiny screws in the stripline baffles. Many of these baffles are loose, we should try to get the spacing right.
1425 Finish tightening all the tiny bolts and nuts on the stripline baffles. The edges of the inner plates are separated by 2 inches.
1440 Polish the bottom surface of the stripline elbow flange with Scotch-Brite. Hopefully made things better and not worse.
1455 Put a little vacuum grease on two of the new Viton #222 o-rings, then wipe most of it off. Work one o-ring up the striplines and place it on the top flange of the fridge port, for the MB seal.
1505 Work the second o-ring up the striplines, position it inside the compression ring for the stripline elbow, then screw the compression ring onto the stripline elbow.
1515 Put a little vacuum grease on the business end of the stripline tube, then feed the striplines through it and start working it through the baffles. When it got to the top stripline baffle I decided to put some of the foil pieces between the baffle plates for thermal radiation shielding.
1530 Trying to push the stripline tube into the fridge port, it got caught on the tape I put in there. So I removed that strip of tape and replaced it with several pieces that extend about 0.75” up along the port wall and at the bottom spread out into strips that overlap the bottom edge.
1535 Push the stripline tube up through the fridge port, engaging both o-rings.
Put foil between the plates of the bottom flange, neglected to put any more up there. Hopefully won't matter much.
1555 Remove indium from bottom of IVC top flange and clean with methanol. Also clean indium surfaces on top IVC section a little more.
1600 Matt exits lab
