Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt
  • Virtual partner: Derek
Status Run 74 in progress. Warmed up a second time to fix the DIB2qI short which reappeared at around 130 K. Cryostat Vacuum Jacket pumped out, MB in pit. Some He in IVC. Mixture in dump.
1350 Matt enters lab
1355 Check pressure in IVC: 19 mbar. This is helium - let's pump it out for a bit before filling the IVC with N2.
1400 Pump out IVC with Scroll, switch to Turbo @ <0.1 mbar.
1400 Remove fill funnel from fridge, then install clean tent with yoga mats underneath
1405 Connect HEPA filter hose to clean tent and turn on (plug in filter fan
1415 Clean dust from clean tent interior and IVC with methanol
1415 Stop pumping He out of IVC after about 15 minutes.
1415 Begin slowly filling IVC with N2 gas
1435 IVC reaches >1 atm (I had all but 2 bolts removed, the last two loosened a few threads - IVC popped open.)
1440 Remove IVC bottom
1445 Detach 4K heatsinks from tower
1450 Quick electrical check of DIB2 (Cable3) - no shorts in the charge channels, as expected.
1455 Detach accessory plugs from NW face and remove SQUET from W face, remove SQUET with diverter board from SL 43
1505 Remove SQUET ZC-13 from E face and detach from SL 41
1510 Remove tower socket covers at three unused tower faces
1515 Detach 4K shield from IVC
1525 Remove 100 mK heat sinks and detach 600 mK rod from tower
1530 Remove inner 100 mK shield pieces
1540 Remove outer 100 mK shield pieces
Notice that some of the pieces of kapton tape I used to tape down the thermometer wire around the bottom of the 30 mK can on one side, making a touch between 30 mK and 100 mK. But probably low conductivity.
1545 Remove tape holding thermometer wire to 30 mK can and unplug tower thermometer
1545 Remove cap from bottom hole of tower
1555 Remove 9 of the 30 mK can bolts, leaving 3 to hold it up.
1620 Put black electrical tape around inner edge of tower stand ring, to cushion the bottom surface of the IVC from scratches. Recently I identified attaching this ring as a potential source of scratches on the indium o-ring surface.
1630 Attach tower stand to IVC to hold up tower.
1635 Remove final 3 30mK can bolts from tower adapter
1640 Put scissor jack on top of red drill case and raise jack up to bottom of tower stand
1650 Lower tower carefully, guiding 600mK rod past parts of tower, making sure it doesn’t hit the accessory connections. Continue until nuts on threaded rods are near the top of the rods, then tighten nuts so that tower is again supported by tower stand.
1655 Remove red drill case, then raise jack to support tower stand. Remove threaded rods from stand.
1700 Remove fridge stand ring from IVC and lower it down to the bottom on the shafts. It’s a little tricky to do it at this stage because you have to pull the striplines through, probably makes sense to wait till the end.
1705 Lower jack as low as it will go, guiding both the 600 mK rod and the stripline ends.
1705 Pull jack+tower stand away from IVC, pulling shafts slightly apart to clear the IVC. Remove tower stand from jack.
1710 Double-bag tower and move it to clean room anteroom
1715 Matt exits lab
