Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt
  • Virtual partner: Zach
Status Run 74 prep. 1K Pot pumped out and isolated. Fridge and 4He and LN2 Trap 1 isolated, not pumped out. Cryostat vacuum jacket pumped out. IVC open, tower removed.
1547 Matt arrives at lab.
1555 Put scissor jack on top of red drill case and position under tower stand, then raise jack to support stand
img_0240.jpeg img_0241.jpeg
1600 Raise tower, while guiding the 600 mK rod around tower parts and feeling around to make sure thermometer wire and motor striplines aren't getting snagged. Raise tower high enough so that adapter ring is above 600 mK rod.
img_0242.jpeg
1605 Raise until adapter ring is just touching 30 mK can. 600mK rod is below 600mK ear.

1610 Tighten nuts to support tower stand, then collapse jack and remove it from clean tent. Get out MC Adapter screws.
img_0244.jpeg img_0245.jpeg
1620 Begin screwing tower onto 30 mK can. Notice that one socket is missing on bottom of tower - this is a known problem, it's not a face that we are using. Screw in several screws so that tower is supported.
img_0246.jpeg
1625 Unscrew center shaft from fridge stand, though this is not really necessary since it doesn't lock into the tower (cuz the tower has no threads). Start lowering fridge stand.
img_0247.jpeg
1630 Remove threaded rods from fridge stand, then remove stand from clean tent.
img_0248.jpeg
1630 Out of concern for the delicate source mover motor wires, do a Tower electrical check. Turns out motor coil 1 is open. Coil 2 ok. Also check Tower thermometer at Lakeshore bridge, it's ok.
1645 Reattach tower stand to begin tower removal to fix the motor wires. Remove center shaft first to set it properly into tower hole.
img_0249.jpeg
1650 Remove 30mK can screws, position scissor jack on drill box under tower stand and raise jack to support stand. Lower jack, while guiding 600 mK rod and making sure nothing snags.
img_0250.jpeg
1700 When jack is fully lowered, tighten fridge stand nuts to support tower, then remove red box. Then position jack under stand again and raise it til it reaches base.
img_0251.jpeg
1710 Unplug motor wires and take a look - no obvious breaks. Check with meter again - it looks like the Motor 2 wires are also a little touchy. Messing with the tape a little I could get the motor 1 wires to short out. We'll check this later in the clean room and try to make this connector more secure.

1720 Finish removing tower and place it in clean room

1730 Bring lab laptop up to Room 435. It now has MAESTRO software installed to read out the NaI detectors. Plugged the Ortec module into a USB port (note that it is on and the NaI detector is biased and operating). Learned from the manual to run Connections to get the software to see the detector - it seems to be working now.
1740 Matt leaves PAN
