Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt
  • Virtual partner: Monica
Status Run 74 prep. 1K Pot pumped out and isolated. Fridge and 4He and LN2 Trap 1 isolated, not pumped out. Cryostat vacuum jacket pumped out. IVC open, tower removed.
1030 Matt enters lab
The two motor coils for the source mover have had both ends electroplated and tinned with solder.
1040 Unroll the inner end from one of the spools. There seems to be only about 30 cm free, I thought I had left 40 cm free. Stick this down onto an outstretched piece of Kapton tape. The idea is to make a sort of stripline.
1050 Unroll the other end from the spool and stick it down on the kapton tape alongside and near the first end.
1055 Put a second piece of kapton tape over the first, sticky sides together. Trim the ends. Hopefully this won't trap too much air for pumpout purposes.
1055 Trim off excess tape to keep the kapton stripline as narrow as possible. Note: the ends coming off the spool are aligned with one of the notches, since this is where they come out of a slot in the motor housing.
1110 Working on the second coil - while unwinding the inner end from the spool (which seems to be about 40 cm free in this case), several centimeters of wire broke off. Then another piece broke off. It seems to be unusually fragile on this end.
1120 Judging whether there's still enough free to make a stripline that reaches the tower plug. I don't think so. We'll want to rewind this coil.
1125 Yet another piece broke off the inner end. About 40 cm total broken off. Luckily that's less than 1% of the total length.
1130 Start unwinding the second coil. We'll finish this next time.
