2020/12/11 (Friday)

Previous Day

  • Lab in-person: Matt
  • Virtual partner: Zach, Ruiren
Status Run 73 disassembly. 1K Pot pumped out and isolated. Fridge and 4He and LN2 Trap 1 isolated, not pumped out. Cryostat vacuum jacket pumped out. IVC open, tower removed.
Matt Fritts body temperature = 98.0
1310 Matt enters lab. Examine source mover holder.
1330 Notice that the screw terminals are hanging loose, no longer taped to source mover base plate.
1335 Detach brass motor base plate from copper source mover base.
1340 Unscrew motor, heat sink, and motor strap from brass motor base plate.
1345 Wedge motor housing open with small screw driver in slot
1345 Wedge open remaining motor parts to free both coils.
1350 Cut NbTi coil wires free of epoxied heat sink connections.
1355 Finish disassembling motor parts, free both coils.
1400 Remove layers of yellow plastic tape and Teflon tape from first coil to expose the NbTi wire.

Note: the inner end is very short and can't be pulled out. It's clear that we will have to unwind the NbTi then rewind.
1405 Do the same to the second coil. Short end isn't quite as short but likely we need to unwind this one too.
1405 Look at USD1 detector. It has two DIBs on opposite faces. 4 charge channels are wirebonded to qI and qO pins on each DIB, ground side is wirebonded to a phonon channel pin, can see continuity between these. Verify that there are 3 working LEDs on the DIBs.
1415 Look at the stranded wire that the coil NbTi were soldered onto. It looks silvery, don't know what it is. But unlikely I guess that it's s/c material.
1420 Leave clean room
1450 Unwinding one of the motor coils by hand onto a NbTi spool. Straightening some kinks along the way.
1525 Finished unwinding one motor coil.
1545 Set up Nick's winding rig to unwind the other motor coil onto a spool.
1600 Finished unwinding second motor coil.
1615 Matt leaves lab.
