Previous Day

Status: Tower installed and has passed electrical checks. IVC passed leak check. Pumped out IVC with turbo pump over weekend.
1010 Turbo = 30 nbar, IVC = 0.74 μbar. Better than Run 63.
prepare a room-temperature throughput test with simultaneous leak check on IVC. Since the LN2 traps are warm, we'll modify the usual procedure - we'll let mix directly from the dump to G1.
1025 G1 and P1 are both around 30 mbar. This is presumably air that has leaked in. Will pump this out to air with scroll pump. Then check pressure in fridge, pump that out with scroll pump too.
1045 Pumped fridge pressures down to about 1 mbar
1045 LD is pumping on IVC with background of 1.6 pbarL/s

Room temperature throughput test when traps are warm:

  1. All mixture in dump (LN2 traps warm), condenser & still valves open (3He pump on - optional)
  2. Open V9, V4, V3. Wait for G1 to be close to G2.
  3. Close V4 and V3, open V1
  4. monitor G1
1050 Perform throughput test with procedure above. LD signal does not go up: good! Throughput result: let G1 rise to 600 mbar before Step 3, then it falls to 51 mbar and begins to rise. Throughput: 7.4 mbar/min. Compare with last June, a little lower (but that time was a lower temperature).
1100 Pump mixture back to dump
1100 3He pump is very loud. This is probably bad. Does it need to be serviced?
1125 Stop pumping mixture from fridge to dump (down to 50 μbar on P1). Turn off 3He pump.
1325 Turn on 3He pump as a test. It is not nearly as loud. Can't say for sure whether it's louder than usual. However there is a high-pitched whine that seems new.
