2017/08/31 (Thursday)

Previous Day

Status Tower deinstalled. IVC completely removed along with all temperature shield cans and mixing chamber connector spool. Both LN2 traps warm and pumped out. Mixture in dump (LHe cold trap isolated at around 20 K). 1K Pot needle valve open. Cryostat vacuum jacket pumped out.
1015 To deal with leak into IVC at top of stripline tube, lowered tube so that top of tube was exposed. Cleaned end of tube with methanol, then apply some vacuum grease on the upper few centimeters, then pushed it back up. Tighten the knurled knobs, the lower one (seal to top of bath) and the top one (seal onto elbow piece).
1430 Work on reassembly:
  1. Clean indium from ceiling of IVC.
  2. Tighten screws on bottom of MC base. (These could easily be tightened about an additional 1/4 turn.)
  3. Scotch-brite MC spool and bottom of MC.
  4. Attach spool to bottom of MC.
  5. Wrap thermometer wire around spool 1/2 turn, cover with Teflon tape then tie with dental floss.
  6. Check thermometer wire by wiring a resistor to the plug (one side to two outer pins, other side to two inner pins). Reads fine at bridge.
  7. Clean indium surfaces at bottom of stripline tube and all three seals on upper IVC can.
  8. Put 1mm diameter indium wire on the two top seals of the upper IVC can (with a little vacuum grease). Note 1.5mm is the size we use for the other seals.
  9. Raise upper IVC can up onto fridge. 2-person job. Striplines must be fed through hole one at a time. Thermometer wire must be fed through the center of the can.
