Previous Day

Setup: DIB3/minibob → 3.2 MHz filters 1/none → cable 1/none → gender changer 1/none → DCRC55(1)/DCRC33(2)
Y-88, Ba-133, and Na-22 sources are all out, hanging unshielded by the southeast column of the fridge stand (only a couple meters from the DAQ work station)
0840 Tower = 33.3 mK Main Bath = 36.7%
0850 Fill LN2 cold trap bath
0930 Put Y-88, Ba-133, and Na-22 sources back in safe
1030 Y-88 source taken from safe and put near HPGe detector.
1119 Tower/MC/Coldplate = 33.3/31.6/188 mK, Still = 1.2 K / 0.110 mbar, G1/G2 = 221/206 mbar, 1K Pot = 1.664 K / 20.0 mbar. Main Bath = 32.9% (predicted level: 35.7%)
1131 Start LHe transfer (MB = 32.5%)
1210 Put Y-88 source back in safe.
1220 End LHe transfer (MB = 90.9%)
1255 Change back to HV board setup
1310 Setup: DIB1/3/4 → 3.2 MHz filters 3/1/2 → cable 3/1/2 →gender changer 3/1/2 → HVConn 1/3/2 → HV 1/2 → DCRC55/DCRC33
1310 Zap SQUIDs on DCRCs 1 and 2, twice
1330 Restored old SQUID settings. DCRC2 channels all look good, but DCRC1 channels are all railed low and stuck there.
1335 Power cycle DCRC1
1355 DCRC1 channels are still flatlined. Doing rd 0 and rd 1 shows 0000 - these are the phonon pointers. Doing this on DCRC2 shows a different value each time, which is I guess the correct behavior.
1405 Can't figure out how to restore DCRC1. Power it down again.
1610 DCRC1 is cool now. Power it back on. Tower temperature rises to 280 mK then falls - this happened earlier too.
DCRC1 channels are still flatlined. Below are a few specific observations:
  • Before turning on the DAQ programs:
    • On DCRC1, rd 1 gave a non-zero value (3660) before turning on the DAQ programs. (Previously it was showing 0000)
    • On DCRC1 repeated rd 1 commands gave the same value
    • On DCRC2, rd 1 gave a non-zero value (9790)
    • On DCRC2 repeated rd 1 commands gave the same value
  • After turning on the DAQ programs:
    • On DCRC1, rd 1 gives 0000 every time
    • On DCRC2, rd 1 gives a different value every time
      • although this is only true when a run is in progress. Otherwise it gives the same value every time.
1620 Try disabling SDRam writes on both DCRCs (“EnableADCWritesToSDRam” in the DCRC's General menu) - doesn't change the above behavior.
1630 Notice that rd 15 on DCRC1 gives 0290. I think this indicates that the SDRam write enable is off. Try wr 15 02B0 to turn it on. Doesn't fix it. Actually it doesn't “take” - rd 15 still shows 0290. Also on DCRC2, telnet commands to wr 15 don't take, it stays at 02A0 or 02A1.
1720 Fill LN2 cold trap bath
1725 Turn off DAQ programs then reset ODB so that only DCRC1 is enabled and set as “free-running” in terms of timing, then restart programs. Channels still flatlined. Return to previous settings, both DCRCs enabled with DCRC2 timing master.
