Previous Day

Status: fridge at room temperature, cryostat Dewar is down, IVC is open. Pumping on still with turbo pump, attached at top of fridge.
Mixture is in dump and 3He pump, manual dump valves are closed.
0840 Turbo pump = 4.0 nbar, still pressure (with pump valved out) = 3.0 μbar.
1025 Clean tent is up. MC spool is reattached. (Not easy since middle IVC section is still in place.) Top and bottom of spool and bottom of MC base were polished with Scotch-Brite first.
1115 Finish securing the tower thermometer wiring to the MC spool.
1415 Remove middle section of IVC, because 100mK can must be installed before middle section of IVC
1450 Install 100 mK can and the 6“ version of the 30 mK can, reattach middle IVC section
1550 Begin to install tower, but one of the tower thermometer wires seems to be broken. There seems to be a loose connection near where the repairs were done a week and a half ago. Will need to remove middle IVC section and 100mK can to fix it.
1650 One of the wires broke near where it had been fixed. Resoldered this wire. Then added more stress relief - previously there was just some kapton tape around the four wires in the fixed section. This time the wire bundle was looped into an S and taped, then wrapped in teflon tape. We lose about an inch of length this way.
1755 Reattach 100mK can and 30mK can. By ensuring that the rotation of the 30mK can is correct while attaching, we correctly divert the thermometer wire through the gap in the bottom of the spool and avoid pinching the wire. Using the multimeter, ensure that all 4 traces in the thermometer are connected.
