Previous Day

Status LN in main bath. Turbo pumping main bath vacuum jacket overnight.
0950 MC(Cernox) = 77.6 K, Sorb = 115 K. Main bath Dewar Jacket = 5.4E-6 mbar pumping, 1.9e-4 mbar with pump valved out. It seems a little higher than yesterday, kind of strange. Close main bath vacuum jacket valve.
0955 Remove Trap 2 from LN2 trap bath to let warm. Open V12b to view trap pressure on G1.
1010 Trap 2 pressure reaches 12 mbar. Pump out Trap 2 to atmosphere with 4He pump.
1025 Begin blowing out LN2. Deviated from procedure as follows:
  • did not pump out IVC or attach leak detector
  • Did not evacuate He line. Why do we do this? The bellows from the recovery system to the MB is full of air!
  • Instead,
    • capped off end of recovery system hose
    • opened He valve at wall, then vent speedivalve, then V7, v2a, v5a, v4a, v1a
    • then uncapped recovery system hose to bleed lines with He
    • then attached recovery system hose to main bath port
1035 G3 (main bath) pressure begins to fall, was above 500 mbar rel, now falling below 300 mbar rel. LN2 blowout nearly over probably. Sorb temperature begins to increase.
1040 Begin cryocleaning mixture through Trap 2 with v6 at 12.8%
1050 Reconnect turbo station pumping bellows to IVC port. Pump out lines first with scroll pump then with turbo pump.
1050 MC temperature starts to decrease slightly
1100 MC(Cernox) = 77.4 K, Sorb = 120 K
1105 Stop turbopumping line to IVC, open IVC valves to gauge. IVC = 1.2 mbar (He exchange gas)
1115 DIB1 electrical checkout OK except Q bias - QET resistance too high, 0.1 nS, should be 25 nS. This is true for qI and qO, which is extra strange. Confirmed by the fact that leakage to chassis is 0.7 nS for QETs but only 0.1 nS for Q bias lines. Between qI bias and qO bias it's 10 nS - don't understand.
1120 Stop pressurizing MB (close wall He valve and vent speedivalve). It may be finished - only cold gas coming out, though hose is still stiff.
1125 Try pumping on MB with scroll pump. After 10 minutes pressure on P2 is only down to 90 mbar so probably there is still LN2 in the MB. MC and Sorb temperatures are falling a bit probably from evaporative cooling.
1140 Push transfer tube down a bit, was probably not in contact with funnel
1145 Begin blowing out LN2 again. G3(MB) goes to 560 mbar, adjust He cylinder regulator valve to bring it down to 410 mbar. Definitely more LN2 coming out, fills one bomb Dewar
1155 G3(MB) pressure falls to 150 mbar rel. Hose seems less stiff.
1200 DIB2 checkout. Again Qbias-QET resistance too high, 1 nS for qI, 0.4 nS for qO. qI-qO is 10 nS which is more promising, but confusing. Another problem: leakage from qI FET to chassis. qI Feedback/Drain/Source to Chassis are 17nS/10MΩ/10MΩ.
1210 Stop pressurizing MB, try pumping out MB with scroll pump. Looks better. p2 falls below 1 mbar after 8 minutes.
1230 Fill MB with He gas to 300 mbar rel on G3. Also open 1K Pot speedivalve to fill pot with He gas, then close it again. Use scroll pump to pump out GHS auxiliary right-side manifold and GHS vent manifold with v2a and v5a open (v4a closed, vent speedivalve closed). Also pump out auxiliary left-side manifold (G3 volume) with v1a closed, v4a open.
1245 Stop cryocleaning, pump mix to dump. Dump pressure (G2) = 784.6 mbar
1310 MC(Cernox) = 78.4 K, Sorb = 144 K
1315 Perform throughput test using 2016 Jun 1 procedure. Looks bad; G1 drops to 37 mbar (with G2=613 mbar) then doesn't budge.
1320 Throughput < 0.1 mbar/minute. Looks like a blockage, god-damn it.
1330 Pump fridge contents to dump. Pump Trap 1 contents to dump.
1335 DIB3 checkout looks fine.
1350 Try a forward throughput test. Open condenser and still valves, then open v13a, v12a, v1. Look for change in P1. No change, stuck at 0.007 mbar.
1400 Pump all mix to dump
1410 Try another throughput test using old procedure. No dice. G1 falls to 40.8 mbar with G2 at 651 mbar. G1 does not increase. Pump mixture back to dump.
1425 Dump pressure (G2) = 789.1 mbar. (Higher now?)
1425 MC(Cernox) = 82.1 K, Sorb = 149 K, IVC = 1.2 mbar
1430 Fill LN2 cold trap bath. Both traps are in bath.
1430 Open v9 and v13a and v13b to leave mixture exposed to traps overnight.

Today's bad news:

  • Blockage in fridge
  • Q bias lines to QET lines are nearly open on all four charge channels, confusing
  • Short to chassis from DIB2 qI FET of around 10 MΩ
