2015/11/12 (Thursday)

Previous Day

Current setup: HV Mode, DIB1/2/3 → cables → 3.2 MHz filters → HV Box → DCRC50/55.
Overnight: idle, tower temperature stable. G2 falling slowly from 140 mbar to 130 mbar.
0820 Tower/MC(H35)/MC sensor/Cold Plate = 30.5/24.3/38.3/139 mK, Still = 1.05 K / 0.11 mbar, G1/G2 = 120/130 mbar, 1K Pot = 1.68 K / 13 mbar, Main bath = 26.3%
Still, Cold Plate significantly cooler in HV setup, base somewhat cooler
0828 Begin LHe transfer at 24.6%
0830 Fill LN2 cold trap Dewar.
0927 Finish LHe transfer at 90.4%
0955 Repeat some of yesterday's MC-heating measurements to see if we're in about the same place:
MC power [uW] MC temp [mK] Tower temp [mK] CP temp [mK] Still temp [K] Still pressure [mbar]
0 24.2 30.5 142 1.13 0.11
5 38.2 39.8 147 1.17 0.11
0 24.3 30.8 144 1.16 0.11
interestingly the 0-power base is about the same but 5 uW doesn't heat it as much as yesterday
CP and Still appear warmer but this is apparently a shift in the Fridge Out 1 temperatures… they shift back later at a random point
1135 Apply HV voltage bias and monitor temperatures:
HV [V] HV [nA] MC temp [mK] Tower temp [mK] CP temp [mK] Still temp [K] Still pressure [mbar]
0 0 24.3 30.8 144 1.16 0.11

75 152.3 27 50.3 138 1.07 0.11
0 0 24.9 31 137 1.04 0.11
HVs of 30V or smaller are using the 0-40V supply; greater biases use the 0-1000V supply
1425 Return to iZIP mode, DIB1/2/3 → cables → 3.2 MHz filters → DCRC55/33/50.
1500 Try to set up everything from a Linux machine with MIDAS. Notes below:
  1. Initiating communications with the board (i.e. the various Putty actions like wr 15 0, wr 15 20, sock, rd 30): on a Linux machine can ssh to jiajin then TELNET [DCRC address] [port# (use 5000)]. Then it's just like Putty.
  2. checked on the MIDAS browser, ODB→Equipment etc to see which ports it uses (5001 and 5002)
  3. on the MIDAS browser start the programs as in the instructions.
  4. Anthony knew this would apply charge biases, so went to ODB→Equipment→Towers→Charge to set the biases to zero
  5. from the browser go to DCRC_UI→tools→zap to zap. This worked well, one-touch, two flashes (could see them in still pressure)
  6. As per instructions, set up VNC session to jiajin and start the pulse viewing. Sadly this has some bugs currently, so stop there.
1625 Set all phonon trigger thresholds to 65 ADC bins.
1630 Place Y-88 source inside shield.
1735 After taking back control from Midas, many phonon channels railed. Unrailing takes changing Driver Offsets. Many of the driver offsets that were set weren't consistent with what we had entered into MIDAS, so perhaps there's some discrepancy there. On DIB2, phB, C, and D are all showing upside down and dirty pulses. Similar to what we had seen on HV2pB earlier today. We haven't flashed since applying HV to the detectors, so maybe that's got something to do with it. Otherwise, we might be able to wait it out.
1736 Start 14 cycles of 30min runs of Y data at +/-4V with 30s of flashing and 25min cooldown beforehand, FG=5/2/5, OG=3, 1000 initial randoms, 2000 events/file, 30s flash and 25min cooldown in between. With all trigger thresholds set to 65ADC bins.
1745 Fill LN2 cold trap full.
1746 Flashing did not seem to help. Unplug DCRC33 and then repower. Zap twice and reapply settings.
1754 Without even having to stop DAQDAQ, having reapplied DCRC33's settings, all DIB2 phonon channels are showing proper pulses. Tada.
