Previous Day

  • Lab in-personnel: Luke, Himangshu
Status Run 82 In Preparation
1136 Pump out contaminants from cold trap 1
Pumping out contaminants from cold trap 1
Pre-Checks
Cold trap 1 is at room temp (outside of the cold canister)
(G1) is at zero
(6) (8) and (9) are closed
Valves (cold trap IN and OUT) on back of GHS1 are open
Scroll pump is connected to He4 line in pump room
Procedure
1 Turn on scroll pump (plug to wall)
2 Open scroll pump valve by starting slowly and go all the way
3 Open (5a) → (2a) → (4)
4 Close (4)
5 Open (3) → (15)
6 Read (G1), expected reading 50-300 mbar, depending on volume of contaminants removed during prior cleaning
7 Open (4)
8 Monitor (P2) until it reads less than 1 mbar
9 Close (15) → (3) → (4) → (2a) → (5a)
10 Close scroll pump valve by turning all the way
11 Turn off scroll pump (unplug from wall)
12 Place cold trap into cold canister
13 Fill cold canister (until it spills out)
Connecting He3 Pump to Cold Trap
Pre Checks
(4) is closed
Cold canister is filled, cold trap is submerged
Procedure
1 Slowly Open (9) → (8) → (3) → (5)
2 Turn on He3 pump (switch ↑)
3 Open (6)
4 Close (9) → (8)
Monitoring for flow rate during cold cleaning
Procedure
The (G2) reading should increase when (8) is closed, but it shouldn't increase when it is in the open
If there's no increase in (G2) reading when (8) is closed, slightly turn (2) {the big red knob}, while tapping the glass on (G2) to get updated readings
Monitor continuously during cold cleaning process for 1 hour
Ending the cold cleaning process
Procedure
1 Open (9)
2 Close (6) → (8)
3 Monitor (P1) until ≈ 100mTorr (Open 2 almost 360 degrees)
4 Close (3) → (5) → (2) → (9)
5 Turn off (↓) He3 pump switch
6 Remove cold trap from cold canister and replace with rubber plug
