Previous Day

  • Lab in-personnel: Himangshu, Ping
Status Run 78 beginning, LN2 transfer yesterday, mixture in fridge
1144 MC(Cernox) = 77.13 K, Sorb = 121.3 K, G2/G1/P1 (circulation) = 587/544/(maxout) mbar
1145 IVC = 2.5 mbar, Start pumping out IVC with Scroll Pump. When pressure falls below 0.1 mbar switch to Turbo Pump.
1150 Fill LN2 cold trap dewar
1153 While we wait for the cold trap 1 to get filled up, take electrical checks on the three cables
1217 Turn on 3He pump and open V6 to 12.4%, reestablishing circulation like yesterday. G2/G1/P1 → 656/709/0.5 mbar and settle
1223 Close V12a+speedivalve for 2 minutes to assess throughput. G1 falls at 69 mbar/min. Reopen V12a speedivalve
1227 Pump mixture to dump. Close V13a, open V3 (V9 already open), open V6 more in steps up to 30%
1245 G1 = 1.4 mbar, P1 = 0.065 mbar. Stop pumping mixture to dump. Close V12a+speedivalve, close V1, close V3, close V6
1247 V6 is fully closed, close V9, leaving 719.1 mbar in the dump. Leave 3He pump on.
Throughput test procedure, Cold Trap 1:
  1. All mixture in dump, LN2 trap 1 is cold, condenser & still valves open (3He pump on - optional)
  2. Open V9, V13a, V12a+speedivalve, V3. Wait for G1 to be close to G2 (within 100 mbar).
  3. Close V12a+speedivalve and V3, open V1
  4. monitor G1
1254 Perform mixture throughput test at MC = 77 K using above procedure with 3He pump on. Let G1 rise to 568 mbar before Step 3, then it falls to 76 mbar, then rises. Throughput = 50 mbar/min.
1256 Open mixture to both sides of the fridge (V3) and cold LN2 Trap 1 (V12a+speedivalve).
1258 Turbo on IVC = 25 nbar, with the turbo valved out for a min, IVC = 300 nbar
1259 Pump IVC with Leak Detector, Turbo valved out, IVC = 270 pbarL/s
The leak checker was making a leak alarm noise once we valved the turbo out, but the rate is high, Doing a leak check now.
1543 We will do another LN2 transfer to keep the fridge at 77K . We will do LN2 blowout tomorrow.

1621 LN2 dewar refill calculations: Offset: 246 lbs, Fill weight: 30, Weight with partially filled dewar: 175 lbs, With the lines: 179.5 lbs. Amount of liquid in the partially filled dewar: (175+246-201.5) = 219.5 lbs== 99.56 litres. Initial reading on meter at start of fill will be 206-246 = -46. Amount of liquid filled: (46+30)= 76 lbs == 34.4 litres
1711 MC(Cernox) = 77.1 K, Sorb = 121.7 K , IVC = 1.6 mbar, G2/G1/P1 (circulation) = 545/585/1000 mbar, Level resistor = 1.348 kΩ.
1716 No change in level resistor for a while. Stop LN2 transfer. Close LN2 Dewar valve. Pull out Level Resistor and put stopper in port. Put ping-pong ball on MB exhaust port.
