2020/03/03 (Super Tuesday)

Previous Day

Setup Run 72. DIB 1/3/4 → Stripline 43/41/48 → Cable 3/2/1 → nothing/nothing/accessory_interposer → HV_Conn 1/3/2 → HV 1/2 → DCRCX(4)/DCRC55(1). DCRCs on overnight. Lead/poly shield erected (4 lead walls, 2 poly walls).
Overnight: Tower temperature rose after filling the LN2 cold trap bath, 53.8→56.4 mK. Then cooled steadily overnight.
0925 Tower/MC/Coldplate = 50.9/33.1/192 mK, Still = 1.49±0.05 K / 0.190 mbar / 5 mW, G1/G2= 502/480 mbar, 1K Pot = 2.19 K / 26 mbar. MB = 30.3%
0930 Fill LN2 cold trap bath
1025 Like yesterday, filling the LN2 cold trap bath seems to have raised the Tower temperature, 51→55 mK. Still pressure not noticeable affected, Circulation pressures dipped then returned as usual.
1025 Tower/MC/Coldplate = 55.0/38.1/194 mK, Still = 1.55±0.15 K / 0.190 mbar / 5 mW, G1/G2= 499/476 mbar, 1K Pot = 2.19 K / 26 mbar.
so Tower and MC each have risen about 5 mK, Coldplate rose a little, circulation pressures slightly lower. Surprisingly Still seems a little warmer, I thought that the reason we were getting warming at the Tower was that the still was cooling and therefore reducing the He3 flow.
1352 Start LHe transfer @ MB = 23.0%
1429 End LHe transfer @ MB = 90.4%

Some analysis conclusions from yesterday's data:

  • As expected the peaks are much easier to identify with the shield erected.
  • Looks like we got the drift rate just right, peaks are constant with time.
  • Noise width is improved, surprisingly. Now it looks around what we got in Run 70:
    • 34 eV for PTOF (at 250V). This is pre-balancing
  • I had noticed that some channels needed extreme balancing. In this data I found out why:
    • the OF time window seemed OK for pF and pT but for the other channels most OFdelays are railed at the high edge
    • I changed the config file from phonon OF time max of 25e-6 to 65e-6 (seconds after trigger) and reprocessed
    • After reprocessing the balancing factors are more reasonable (2 to 15 before, 1 to 3 after)
    • Balanced psum gives less sharp peaks and poorer noise width
    • Balanced psum with pB and pD removed (so only pA, pC, pF) gives much sharper peaks. But noise width is slightly worse than pT.
  • If we apply a high-pF-fraction cut, PTOF noise width falls nearly by half, to 17 eV
1725 Fill LN2 cold trap bath
Use HVscan.py to generate a sequence HVdrift_200V_31mVps_pre10-2_105min.msl. This should bias detector to 200 V after a 2 minute 10% prebias, then drift by 31 mV/s and run for 105 minutes (ending at about 395V). Then flashes 30 seconds and waits 30 minutes.
1737 Start a series at HV = 200→395V, rate 31mV/s, 105 minutes, with 10% prebias for 2 minutes, flash at end with 30 min wait.
CDMS detector: Driver Gains = 1x, DCRC4/1 QET biases = (na/360/430)/(360/420/440) uA, Front-End Gains = (na/3/3)/(5/5/5)
1000 BOR and 5Hz in-run randoms, trigger on DCRC1pD threshold = 9
Use sequence HVdrift_200V_31mVps_pre10-2_1005min.msl
1740 Tower = 54.7 mK. Rising a bit after the LN2 fill.
1747 Data starts
Vtest rose steadily from 2.8→5.2 mV during voltage drift.
113 dumps. Pulses look good through entire series.
