2017/12/29 (Friday)

Previous Day

Setup: DIB1/3/4 → SL 27/19/20 → 3.2 MHz filters → cables 2,1,3 → HV board inputs 1,3,2 → HV board outputs 1,2 → DCRC55(1)/50(3). DCRC4 → HV power supply.
1005 Tower/MC/Coldplate = 21.4/25.0/146 mK, Still = 1.2 K / 0.100 mbar, G1/G2 = 203/175 mbar, 1K Pot = 1.61 K / 24 mbar, MB = 65.9%
1010 Fill LN2 cold trap bath
1130 Investigate floating phonon noise by looking at additional noise from breaking dcrc ground connection to fridge chassis.
1148 Start 5 min long trace randoms transition data series at HV=0V, Driver Gains = 2x, QET biases = (480/360/440)/(480/380/490) uA, Front-End Gains = 10/5 on DCRC1/3, DCRC1,3 trace length = 13.1072ms, Trigger on 20Hz randoms
1154 Stop dcrc programs, power down dcrcs 1,3.
1158 Insert switchboards on all 3 DIBs at the ebox. Switchboards have all lines connected but ground plane is broken between board and ebox.
Setup: DIB1/3/4 → SL 27/19/20 → Switchboard1/3/4(broken grounds) → 3.2 MHz filters → cables 2,1,3 → HV board inputs 1,3,2 → HV board outputs 1,2 → DCRC55(1)/50(3). DCRC4 → HV power supply.
1202 Power on dcrcs 1,3 and start up dcrc programs. Still have pulses, noise doesn't seem terrible.
1206 Zap SQUIDS on DCRCs 1,3 twice, standard settings
1240 Snap and re-lock most of the channels.
1245 Tower = 21.4 mK
1246 Start 5 min long trace randoms transition data series at HV=0V, Driver Gains = 2x, QET biases = (480/360/440)/(480/380/490) uA, Front-End Gains = 10/5 on DCRC1/3, DCRC1,3 trace length = 13.1072ms, Trigger on 20Hz randoms, switchboards with broken ground planes @ ebox
1329 Stop dcrc programs, power down dcrcs 1,3, remove switchboards.
1330 Modify switchboards by bridging ground breaks with 68 uF capacitors to couple high frequency noise. Replace switchboards.
Setup: DIB1/3/4 → SL 27/19/20 → Switchboard1/3/4(68 uF bridging grounds) → 3.2 MHz filters → cables 2,1,3 → HV board inputs 1,3,2 → HV board outputs 1,2 → DCRC55(1)/50(3). DCRC4 → HV power supply.
1340 Power dcrcs 1,3, start dcrc programs.
1347 Zap SQUIDS on DCRCs 1,3 twice, standard settings
1350 Snap and relock channels. All look reasonable except DCRC3pC which has crazy, jagged traces. Probably needs to be re-zapped.
1400 Tower = 23.5 mK
1404 Start 5 min long trace randoms transition data series at HV=0V, Driver Gains = 2x, QET biases = (480/360/440)/(480/380/490) uA, Front-End Gains = 10/5 on DCRC1/3, DCRC1,3 trace length = 13.1072ms, Trigger on 20Hz randoms, switchboards with 68 uF ground coupling @ ebox
1411 Stop dcrc programs, power down dcrcs 1,3
1412 22Na source removed from safe and placed near NaI detectors.
Remove switchboards from dibs.
Setup: DIB1/3/4 → SL 27/19/20 → 3.2 MHz filters → cables 2,1,3 → HV board inputs 1,3,2 → HV board outputs 1,2 → DCRC55(1)/50(3). DCRC4 → HV power supply.
1410 Power dcrcs 1,3, start dcrc programs.
1416 Zap SQUIDS on DCRCs 1,3 twice, standard settings
1531 DCRC3PC is still acting crazy even though we're back in standard mode. It's got noise present at the SQUID (preamp) which kind of looks like a modulation curve. It seems to be in phase with the test signal, though it claims the test signal is not enabled or connected to any lines.
1546 Stop dcrc programs and do a soft RESET of DCRC3. Start dcrc programs. Same noise on DCRC3PC.
1556 Actually, it seems that the DCRC3PC noise is in phase with the DCRC4 signal generator. Not sure what sort of garbage is going on here, but lets restart the lot of them.
1620 Noise still present. Turn off programs and dcrc3, restart programs. Noise still there. Restart programs and dcrcs 1,3. Reseat all cables. Noise still present.
1624 Zap SQUIDS on DCRCs 1,3 twice, standard settings
1625 Return 22Na source to safe.
1637 Noise still present on DCRC3PC. Restart with only DCRC3 powered on and enabled. Noise still there.
1649 Restart with dcrc1 only in HV2 slot on HV board (i.e. in place of dcrc3). Noise still observed on PC SQUID coil.
1658 Fill LN2 cold trap full.
1659 Recheck all cable connections. Put everything back in standard state.
1716 Noise still present on DCRC3PC and now having trouble getting DCRC3PD in transition. These are the two DIB4 channels. Maybe I killed the DIB4 squids monkeying around with the ground plane coupling? Other channels also seem to be picking up some extra 15 kHz noise now.
