2017/11/22 (Wednesday)

Previous Day

Setup: DIB1/3/4 → SL 27/19/20 → 3.2 MHz filters → cables 2,1,3 → HV board inputs 1,3,2 → HV board outputs 1,2 → DCRC55(1)/50(3). Also DCRC4 is powered and hooked up to control the HV setting.
0735 Tower = 28.2 mK
0735 DAQ froze last night during IbIs sequence. I was about to kill MIDAS, but currently there's a problem with the cluster: several directories aren't mounting. Can't cd into /home/hep/cdmssoft.
0905 Jesse fixed the problem on the cluster. Killed MIDAS then restarted the DAQ programs. This time the behavior was a little different than the previous times that MIDAS locked up during an IbIs sequence, because the sequence resumed after I got the DAQ going again. But it doesn't seem to be starting from the correct place so I am going to restart the sequence.
0910 First, move yesterday's IbIs data to directory /byseries/07171121_2500.
0913 Begin IbIs data sequence on DCRC1pC with HV=0V from 650 to 400 uA in -0.5 uA steps, 3 seconds of data per step. (IbIsDCRC1pC.msl)
Sequence continued to completion. BUT, the files are very small, they seem to include no data…
discovered that the IbIs sequence on DCRC1pA did not go to low enough biases to fall into superconducting. It went from 650 to 400 uA. Strange because the first IbIs curve fell into s/c at around 450 uA. On the other hand it did not really look like the bottom of the transition. Should redo it, 650 to 300 uA.
1132 Begin IbIs data sequence on DCRC1pA with HV=0V from 650 to 300 uA in -1.0 uA steps, 3 seconds of data per step. (IbIsDCRC1pA.msl)
1145 Files are too small. I noticed that this has been happening since the second sequence yesterday, which occured after the HV work. Is something set wrong in the ODB???
1148 Stop IbIs sequence. Time to troubleshoot.
1158 Begin a test series of data with 20 Hz randoms with standard settings e.g. write as CDMS series
1205 This is producing data, but it looks like all the phonon channels are railed. That seems to be a separate problem from the fact that the IbIs sequences are producing empty files.
1255 Tower/MC/Coldplate = 27.5/27.8/159 mK, Still = 1.4 K / 0.110 mbar, G1/G2 = 179/160 mbar, 1K Pot = 1.64 K / 32 mbar, MB = 43.8%
1257 Fill LN2 cold trap full.
1301 Try to bring back railed channels, start run. Get DCRC1 PA, PB, PC back and set driver offsets, then SQUID tuner freezes. Try to restart it, but not working. End run.
1718 Start LHe transfer (MB = 37.0%) (doing this tonight so no transfer on Turkey Day).
1829 End LHe transfer (MB = 93.1%)
1835 Fill LN2 cold trap full.
2207 Begin test series of data with 20 Hz randoms and standard settings, to test whether DCRC1 channels are still working.
2220 DCRC1 pB and pC are working but looks like pA is railed. Before I increased the front-end gains from 1 to 15, we didn't seem to have the railing. I reduced the front-end gain to 10. Also adjusted driver offsets to try to bring back the channels.
2238 Run short test IbIs sequence. The data files produced are the right size. So, I'll go ahead and try the DCRC1pA sequence again.
2245 Begin IbIs data sequence on DCRC1pA with HV=0V from 650 to 300 uA in -1.0 uA steps, 3 seconds of data per step. (IbIsDCRC1pA.msl)
Sequence continued to completion.
