LabView VI setup

1. Look for “TDS3054” folder on desktop, open it and open the “Public” folder inside it. There are a few files named “MuonTelescopeAquire_[something]”. “noOld” just records the middle PMT, “top+bottom” records just top and bottom, and “top+bottom+middle” records all three. Open whichever is needed.

2. The front panel should have the following values:

Control Value Explanation
First Channel Channel 1 sets which channel on scope should be recorded for first dat file
Second Channel Channel 2 sets which channel on scope should be recorded for second dat file
Third Channel Channel 4 sets which channel on scope should be recorded for third dat file
Trigger Source Channel 3 sets which channel scope should trigger on
Trigger Level -200m output from coincidence unit is ~-400mV logic pulse, so we trigger on half-maximum
trigger holdoff 831.6n determines how long a given pulse is displayed for a rolling trigger; not really important since we use normal trigger with infinite persist
Acquisition Start Time -88n sets when data should start being recorded, relative to when coincidence pulse causes scope to trigger
Time Per Record 100n how long an event is recorded for, in seconds
Record Length 500 how many samples program will take per event per channel
Counts/Minute [varies] Indicates how many times per minute program checks for new waveform
VISA resource name GPIB0::1::INSTR tells program which port scope is on

Make sure numeric values have correct sign and letter suffix (“n” indicates “nano-”, “m' is “milli-”, etc.).

3. Start program using “play” icon in upper left, and enter names for dat files to save. The prompts are out of order, so be sure to note which channel you are naming. Channel 1 is the bottom PMT, channel 2 is the top PMT, channel 3 is the pulse from the coincidence unit, and channel 4 is the middle PMT.

4. Stop program using either of the stop buttons. You can start a new run by pressing play again, and picking new dat file names. Old data will be overwritten if you pick the same file names.

Transfering data files

1. Open “WinSCP” from shortcut on desktop. Pick a computer from downstairs, or any SPA linux computer, for the host (ex: “kunlun.spa.umn.edu”) and hit enter. Enter your physics account for username and password when prompted.

2. You should see two panels. To the left are local files, and to the right are files on the linux computer you connected to. Navigate to /data/zlatibor/cdms/plastic/datfiles in the linux window. You can then drag any local files to the linux panel and vice versa. It might prompt you on how to name files if you transfer multiple files at a time, but you can just hit accept and it will preserve the file names you had originally.
