DMR-17 Scintillator Samples
Fabrication
In sample DMR-17B, a | Kuraray Y-11 WLS fiber was attempted to be added to the scintillator sample in situ.
| Table 1: Summary of Scintillator Samples | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sample Name | Sample Fabrication Location | Sample Characteristics | Polymerization Time | Notes |
| DMR-17A | Water Bath | No BPO added | 15 days | Sample still showed no signs of polymerizing so trial was abandoned. |
| DMR-17B | Test Equity Oven | 0.8% BPO, WLS fiber imbedded in sample | 5 days | When samples were examined 24 hours after polymerization began, glue appeared to have melted. The fiber also appeared to have melted. The exothermic polymerization process may have caused the temperature to be higher than anticipated. |
| DMR-17C | Test Equity Oven | 0.8% BPO | 5 days | Notably more bubbles are observed in this sample as compared to DMR-17D. It is not known why this has occurred. Perhaps heat removal from the system wasn't as good as it was in a water bath, |
| DMR-17D | Water Bath | 0.8% BPO | 5 days | Standard sample, some minor crazing on outside |
