511 keV Gamma Energy Deposition
Gamma energy deposition figures are given above. The average energy deposition is 44.1 +/- 0.1 keV (using purely statistical error). The data file used to collect this is stored under: /data/chocula/schmitz/condor_output/HannahTestStand/data/paper/GammaEDepRun2000k_8cm.root. The macro used to collect these images was under: /home/schmitz/sim/HannahTestStand/macros/GammaEnergyDep.C
The geometry used to collect this data was the optics geometry, with 1mm embedded fiber, 0.5mm PTFE wrapping, PTFE reflectivity = 0.95, and a 8cm long scintillator sample (no Gd). Gammas were made incident at a location 4 cm down the axis of a 2.5 cm diameter plastic (polystyrene, C8H8) scintillator. The gammas were made incident perpendicular to the axis of the scintillator at this location, with an initial position of 10 cm radially offset from the scintillator axis (so as to travel through the entire diameter of the plastic).
This number represents the total energy deposited into the plastic scintillator as a result of an incident gamma. That is, a gamma was made incident on the the scintillator and an energy deposit bin was created for that gamma. Then, when any particle deposited energy in the scintillator (whether it was the gamma itself or some other daughter particle), that energy was added to the energy deposit bin for that event. A histogram of the bins from all events gives the plot shown above.
The optical parameters used in this simulation were set to be the same as for the PE count plots shown on the other pages, but optical photon tracking was turned off for this run in order to achieve a greater sample size.
