Previous Day

  • Lab in-personnel: Himangshu,Zach
Status Run 81 beginning, LN2 transfer day before yesterday, mixture in fridge
1219 MC(Cernox) = 77.41 K, Sorb = – K, G2/G1/P1 (circulation) = 510/490/(maxout) mbar
1220 IVC = 2.2 mbar, Start pumping out IVC with Scroll Pump. When pressure falls below 0.1 mbar switch to Turbo Pump.
— Not yet filled LN2 cold trap dewar
1231 Take electrical checks on the three cables
1217 Turn on 3He pump and open V2 to 180+ deg, reestablishing circulation like yesterday. G2/G1/P1 → 590/600/0.5 mbar and settle
1253 Close V3 for 2 minutes to assess throughput. G1 falls at ~50 mbar/min. Reopen V3
1254 Pump mixture to dump. Close V8, open V5 slightly (V9 already open), open V2 more in steps up to 30%
1258 G1 = ~0 mbar. Stop pumping mixture to dump. Close V3, close V1, close V5, close V2
1300 V2 is fully closed, close V9, leaving 620 mbar in the dump. Leave 3He pump on.
Throughput test procedure, Cold Trap 1:
  1. All mixture in dump, LN2 trap 1 is cold, condenser & still valves open (3He pump on - optional)
  2. Open V9, V8, V3, V5. Wait for G1 to be close to G2 (within 100 mbar).
  3. Close V3 and V5, open V1
  4. monitor G1
1310 Perform mixture throughput test at MC = 77 K using above procedure with 3He pump on. Let G1 rise to ~500 mbar before Step 3, then it falls to ~50 mbar, then rises. Throughput = ~40 mbar/min.
1313 Open mixture to both sides of the fridge (V5) and cold LN2 Trap 1 (V3).
1315 Turbo on IVC = 16 nbar, with the turbo valved out for a min, IVC = 190 nbar
1322 Pump IVC with Leak Detector, Turbo valved out, IVC = 660 pbarL/s after a min
1343 Begin blowing out LN2 (following Blow Out Liquid Nitrogen). Main bath → 3 psi
1345 IVC = 600 pbarL/s, MB = 3 psi
1400 IVC = 547 pbarL/s, MB = 2 psi
Increase pressure from helium cylinder, pressure drops to 1 psi, seems the blowout is done
1409 LN2 blowout is complete. Close V2A, V5A, V4A, and V1A. Close the He gas supply and the valve on the gas line.
Wait for the rubber hose to warm up to remove the tubing from the transfer stick, and then plug the transfer stick. Now you will check to see if the MB is empty. You are going to pump on the MB with the scroll pump.
1412 IVC = 7,580 pbarL/s, something in the last 10 minutes caused it to rise, guessing around 1402
1420 Start pumping out main bath with scroll pump. Open V4A and V1A and slowly open the scroll pump valve.
IVC is going down now, we must have a leak, best guess is at the ivc cap since the seal was not replaced since last warmup
1426 P2 started lowering from maxed out value.
1426 IVC = 1000 pbarL/s
1430 P2 = 3 mbar, due to high resistance bellows we think this is as low as we can go
We need to warm up since there is a leak
1432 Switch back to turbo pump on IVC, turn off leak checker
1435 Pump mixture back to the dump
First pump on everything, then pump on fridge only (isolate cold trap), then close fridge and pump on cold trap only, get P1 < 100 mTorr
1456 Fill main bath to 1atm with helium (also accidentally let some air in by removing rubber stopper)
1500 Add 10 mbar of N2 exchange gas to the IVC
