Previous Day

  • Lab in-personnel: Matt, Giulia, Anthony, Kitty, Anton
Status Run 76 in progress
Setup Cables 2/3/1 → diverter/nothing/nothing → Side2-readout HV CONN 1/3/2 → HV 1(L)/2(R) → DCRC50(3)/DCRC55(1), DCRC33(2)→HV control, NaI trigger signal → DCRCX(4)
Lead/poly shield fully assembled.
1005 MC/Coldplate = 28.2/146 mK, Still = 1.09 K / 0.100 mbar / 0 mW, G1/G2 = 109/123 mbar, 1K Pot = 45° / 1.55 K / 8.5±0.5 mbar, MB = 76.8%
1015 Fill LN2 cold trap bath.
1020 Remove lead and poly from North side of lead/poly shield, to access bottom NaI detectors
1050 Put 2“-diameter socks filled with Borax on & around bottom layer of NaI detectors:
6 20”-long, 1.75 lb socks laid crosswise on top
2 27“-long, 2.65-lb socks on sides and wrapped around front
1135 Finish replacing poly and lead on North wall
1305 Move PuBe source in paraffin drum into K100 lab, place on wood platform behind lead wall. Begin NaI rate scan.
1650 Have hung two long 2”-diameter socks over vertical NaI stack. Weighed the second one: 9.6 lbs. Third one: 10.65 lbs.
1730 Later: 6 socks are now hung over the vertical NaI stack.
Noticed later that, for some reason at around 11am, MC temperature rose to above 40 mK over about half a minute, then relaxed a bit, then a couple minutes later shot up to 160 mK, then cooled steadily over 15 minutes to about 60 mK, and over the next three hours cooled back to 29 mK and stayed around there overnight (that's a bit elevated compared to recent base temperatures).
This would have been during shield activities but it's hard to imagine what might have caused this.
