2017/10/31 (Tuesday)

Previous Day

Setup: DIB 1/3/4 → 3.2 MHz filters 1/2/3 → cable 1/3/2 → gender changers → rerouting boards 1/3/4 → DCRC33(2)/DCRC55(1)/DCRC50(3)
0905 Tower/MC/Coldplate = 82.4/57.4/355 mK, Still = 6 mW / 1.18 K / 0.20 mbar, G1/G2 = 296/273 mbar, 1K Pot = 1.657 K / 40 mbar. MB = 32.2%
0910 Fill LN2 cold trap bath.
0920 Detector has been grounded overnight. No flashing since the last data run last night. Let's try biasing it now and taking some more data.
0921 Apply 10.00 V bias to external electrode
0921 Start series of data with Vbias(external) = 10.00 V, with 1000 beginning randoms, and a 35 ADC bin threshold trigger on DCRC2qO, with trigger baseline = 32 samples and trigger length = 10 samples (these are 2x the usual values).
0935 Dumps started out around 37-40 MB. Start falling at Dump 7, reach min of 3-7 MB at Dump 13. This is just as good as a full flash. So leaving the detector grounded overnight is as good as flashing. Next we should try grounding the detector for ~20 minutes and see whether that is as good as flashing.
0941 Stop data, dial HV down to 0 V, ground electrode
1006 Apply 10.01 V bias to external electrode
1006 Start series of data with Vbias(external) = 10.00 V, with 1000 beginning randoms, and a 35 ADC bin threshold trigger on DCRC2qO, with trigger baseline = 32 samples and trigger length = 10 samples (these are 2x the usual values).
1025 Dumps start around 38-41 MB. Start falling at Dump 7, reaching min of 4-5 MB at Dump 13. So grounding the detector for 25 minutes is as good as flashing and then waiting for 25 minutes.
1033 Dial bias down to 0V and ground electrode. This time I'll leave the data going, see what happens.
1105 After grounding, the dump sizes increased to 15 MB for 5 dumps, then increased a bit more, rising for 3 dumps to 21 MB, then fell for 6 dumps to a minimum of 5-7 MB.
1110 Start LHe transfer (MB = 29.1%)
1209 End LHe transfer (MB = 90.7%)
1400 Let's try to get triggering on all channels again. We'll set the thresholds 1 by 1 while watching the SQUIDTuningGUI.
1410 Initially try triggering on DCRC1QO, but it seems to be in a bad state where we get constant triggering even for thresholds of 1000 ADC. Stop run, restart programs, restart run. Now it triggers sensibly.
1418 Try changing trigger window, but it doesn't seem to change the rate much.
1420 Try changing DCRC1QI (disconnected channel) Qamp offset to 0 to see if it changes noise pattern. It doesn't.
1435 Set the triggers at 0V applied as follows.
Channel Trigger level (ADC)
DCRC1QO 55
DCRC2QI 20
DCRC2QO 20
DCRC3QI 45
DCRC3QO 45
1438 Start series of data with Vbias(external) = 50.02 V, with 1000 beginning randoms, and a 55/20/20/45/45 ADC bin threshold trigger on DCRC1qO/DCRC2qI/qO/DCRC3qI/qO, with trigger baseline = 32 samples and trigger length = 10 samples (these are 2x the usual values).
1442 Change DCRC1QI (disconnected channel) Qamp offset back to 1. (see 1420 above)
1440 Dump sizes began to fall around the 37th dump, then stabilized around the 60th dump.
1450 Reduce bias and ground detector around the 70th dump.
1500 After grounding detector, dump sizes jumped back up to around what they started at.
1625 Fill LN2 cold trap bath
1652 Stop series.
Initial hold time = 35 minutes; hold time after removing bias = 40 minutes
