0830 Changed orientation of screw attaching tower thermometer to plate in source holder so screw points inward, then added housing lid to top of tower. Left tower on bench in clean room.
1000 Install lower 100 mK can, using brass screws (M3-8, philips-head) to 5 lb*in torque.
1500 Brass M3x12 philips-head screws arrive.
1515 Replace steel screws attaching adapter plate to tower with brass M3x12, to 5 lb*in torque
1530 Checked tower thermometer and found only two wires seemed connected. Resoldered the tower thermometer plug. First, checked the connection from the fridge plug to bridge with a resistor. The correct wiring is for one resistor lead to connect to the two outer pins and the other to connect to the two inner pins. After soldering, covered wire-pin connections with silicone sealant. After this sets, we need to tape over the end with kapton tape.
1700 Attached 30 mK can with brass M3x12 philips-head screws to 5 lb*in torque
1715 Attached middle IVC section
1700 Left tower double-bagged on clean room bench
Summary of types of screws used for thermal connections
– 30 mK stage –
connection material notes
MC-spool steel needs socket, so switching to brass requires special order
spool-can brass torque = 5 lb*in
can-adapter steel needs socket, so switching to brass requires special order
adapter-tower brass torque = 5 lb*in
– 100 mK stage –
connection material notes
cold plate-upper can steel won't change for this run, to avoid a lot of reassembly
upper can-lower can brass torque = 5 lb*in
lower can-thermal connector steel
