Fridge drawings

Git repository

A few Git repositories have been created on the hep web server to store the fridge drawings online. Unfortunately, web interface is not available at the moment because neither GCI or PHP is running on the web server. Gitweb could be installed if CGI were to be turned on in the future.

The repositories are

/home/webusers/cdms/public_html/cdms_restricted/K100/gitroot
[1098]-bash>ls
am241.git k100.1.git k100.2.git lug_600mk.git

The contents of each repository are

  • am241.git: Drawings of Am-241 source holders
  • k100.1.git: Older K100 drawings
  • k100.2.git: Newer K100 drawings. This is probably where you should look at if you need the drawing of a fridge component.
  • lug_600mk.git: Drawing for the newer (thicker) 600mK lugs.

How to use Git

If you know how to use Git, then you can skip reading this section. There are quite a few good Git tutorials online. I learned git from the page http://www.vogella.com/articles/Git/article.html#firstgit. Below I list briefly the steps of using the repository. The fridge models and drawings are in Autodesk Inventor format, you will need a Windows machine with related software installed to edit or view the files. Git Bash can be used to manipulate the repositories.

First, get a local copy of the files in the repository

# Open Git Bash, and go to a directory where you want to place local copy of the files. Then run the command to check out the files
git clone <user name>@physics.umn.edu:/home/webusers/hepweb/public_html/cdms/cdms_restricted/K100/gitroot/am241.git

Second, edit the files and check into the local repository when done

# If you have created a new file, first add it to the local repository
git add <new file>

# Commit the changes, -a will commit changes for modified files
# but will not add automatically new files. Use something better describing the changes you made after '-m'
git commit -a -m "These are new changes"

Third, push the local change to the remote repository

# If the local changes you made is worth putting into the remote repository, you can push the changes remotely
git push <user name>@physics.umn.edu:/home/webusers/hepweb/public_html/cdms/cdms_restricted/K100/gitroot/am241.git
