cdmsbat Installation
cdmsbat was installed at /data/snowdon/soft/cdmsbat. To save time and steps, compilations were done in place, no installation is needed after make.
- Download FFTW library from http://www.fftw.org/.
- Extract fftw-3.2.2 to the folder /data/snowdon/soft/
- bash> cd fftw-3.2.2
- bash> ./configure
- bash> make
- Follow the instructions at http://root.cern.ch/drupal/content/installing-root-source to install root
- bash> cd /data/snowdon/soft/
- bash> svn co http://root.cern.ch/svn/root/trunk root
- bash> export FFTW3=/data/snowdon/fftw-3.2.2
- bash> cd root
- bash> ./configure # options: http://root.cern.ch/drupal/content/version-52600-binary-build-configurations
- bash> make
- bash> cd bin
- bash> chmod 750 thisroot.*
- add the line
. /data/snowdon/root/bin/thisroot.shto .bashrc - Quit terminal
- Follow the README file to install cdmsbat. The following is an email from Lauren on how to do this
- bash> cd /data/snowdon/soft/
- bash> cvs co cdmsbats
- bash> cd cdmsbats/BatRoot
- bash> make
Hi Jianjie and Angie, here are some instructions for getting the pipeline up and working at UMN. It may still need some iteration with your group and me since we have not done much analysis with cdmsbats at the test facility to date and your DAQ is still evolving. I greatly appreciate your willingness to test it out and make it work.
1. The first thing you'll need to do is install ROOT binaries. If you go to the ROOT webpage, you will find various versions of ROOT and for various platforms. Please choose a version between 5.20 and 5.26 that is compatible with your system and follow the installation instructions. To run BatRoot, you will need a set of binaries that contains the FFTW library. Sometimes its not always easy to tell if a particular set of binaries has it until you download the package and look inside the directory (this was the case for mac os x binaries, but the situation seems to be better with linux). To tell if you have the necessary library after you've downloaded and untar'd the ROOT package, look inside the directory ROOTSYS is the environmental variable that points to the installed ROOT directory).
2. Check that the ROOT install worked (you should be able to type “root” and have it open up without complaints). This makes sure your environmental variables are set properly and cdmsbats will be able to find your ROOT install.
3. Check out the pipeline from titus to wherever you want to install it: cvs co cdmsbats
4. Read the cdmsbats/BatRoot/README file to do the remainder of the installation. Follow the instructions to try and run it on your data. Please note that your datafiles must begin with 07, which is the designated UMN test facility code. If not, BatRoot will pick up the wrong setting and will likely fail or give confusing results.
* I think initially we may need to do some more interactive work so its helpful to be a little familiar with ROOT for this. However, ultimately you want to do data analysis w/ the TF data (I assume you will want to use Matlab for actual analysis?). Now that we have pull-teeth, you will also want to follow Bruno's instructions for pull-teeth ROOT installation so you can read the output files in matlab.
If you can't get cdmsbats to work at step 4, then let me know. I think most likely after attempting 4. (whether or not you succeed in getting it to run), we could set up a short phone conference next week to figure out where to go from there. Please let me know if you have problems with cdmsbats or ROOT installation before reaching step 4.
thanks,
Lauren
