This page intends to be an introduction to accessing the DMC using the tools at ComputeCanada.

Some other helpful tools:

How to access Cedar

First, you need ssh access to the cluster. Luckily, there is no need for a VPN, but you will still need a DRAC account to get access. The page to get a DRAC account is here: Get a DRAC account

It will ask you for a sponsor. At this point, you will need a PI or some other Power That Be to approve you. You can just send them an email explaining your situation to them and they will help you. For example, Miriam Diamond's sponsor code is dkh-002-02. Once you finish the application, wait a few minutes for an account confirmation email and click the link. After that, you just have to wait about a day for your sponsor to approve you. Once that is done, set up your two-factor authentication here.

You now have access to the Cedar cluster. You can ssh in using ssh -Y [USERNAME]@cedar.alliancecan.ca.

How to use the DMC

Our list of macros

You can't run the DMC without the special SuperCDMS module. To use the module, while your are in your home directory, run “nano .bashrc” and add this to the text file:

module use –append /project/def-mdiamond/soft/modules

.bashrc is a file that you can use to add aliases for common commands, as well as automatically run commands. Log out and then log back in to have it automatically run the module load. Create a directory to save the results to. Create a submit.sh script by copy-pasting the text here and changing the SIMDIR to your directory. Now, we have to make a macro. The link above contains some tips for setting one up. Once that's done, we can run our macro with “sbatch submit.sh [DIRECTORYNAME] [FILENAME] [NUMBER]”. It will create a directory with a root file in it with the DMC's output.
